SCOTTISH businesses are being invited to learn more about establishing operations in, or exporting to, the US at an event in Edinburgh, which will provide access to representatives of Virginia, Iowa, Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Florida.

Speakers will include Alison Grieve, the chief executive of Edinburgh company G-HOLD who came up with the idea for a foldaway hand grip on the underside of trays for the food-service industry.

James Macsween, of haggis company Macsween of Edinburgh, and Iain Stirling, founder of Scottish distiller Arbikie, will also address the Scottish North American Business Council event on April 24.

SNABC cited opportunities to meet Council of American States in Europe members Virginia, Iowa, Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Florida. It noted CASE was the official state-supported organisation in Europe to assist companies wishing to establish or expand their business in the US.

John Simmons, from the US Embassy, and Ellen Wong, principal officer of the US Consulate in Edinburgh, will be among the other speakers.

The US remains Scotland’s top export destination country. It accounted for £5.5 billion of Scotland’s exports, 17 per cent of the total, in 2017.

Allan Hogarth, executive director of SNABC, noted Scottish companies would be able to hear from others which have already found success across the Atlantic.
