Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 35 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 245p/kg and an average of 214.5p (+2p on the week), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 229p and levelled at 206.5p (+2p).
In the rough ring 21 cast cows sold to £1387 and 159p to average 122p (-2p).
There were also 792 prime hoggs that sold to £112 and 240p for Beltex to average 184.6p (-9p).
The 231 cast ewes forward saw heavy ewes sell to £131 for Suffolk X Texels and average £89, while light ewes peaked at £83 for Cheviots and levelled at £55.
The firm also sold 31 prime, beef-bred heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 245.5p and an average of 204p/kg (+17p), while 21 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 229.5p and levelled at 199p (+3.4p). Eighty four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 234.5p and averaged 174p (-10.5p), while 48 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 189.5p and levelled at 144.4p (-17p).
There were also 1294 prime hoggs that sold to £111.80 and 264.3p to average 187p (+5.5p).
A small show of cast sheep saw 96 heavy ewes sell to £110.50 for Texels and average £71.35, while 43 light ewes peaked at £90 for Swaledales and levelled at £39.49.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1741 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £98 per head for Beltex and 222p/kg for Texels, to average 184.5p (+4.5p on the week).
The 450 Blackface Hoggets in the sale peaked at £91 and 208.8p/kg to average 187p.
There was a smaller offering of cast sheep this week when 205 heavy ewes sold to £138.50 for a pure Texel and averaged £80.41, while 272 light/export-type ewes peaked at £65.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £56.46
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 151 prime cattle and cast cows in Lanark yesterday. Prime heifers sold to a top of £1450 and 250p/kg, while prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1372 and 140p. Prime bulls sold to £1407 and 196p.
In the rough ring beef cows sold up to £1450p and 160p, while the dairy cows sold to £1075 and 119p.
The 2502 prime hoggs forward this week were a much sharper trade and sold to £120 and 279p/kg to average 194p (+9p).
There were 693 cast sheep forward at the sale this week. Heavy ewes sold to £169 for Texels, while the light ewes peaked at £70 for Blackfaces.
C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 132 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of £1080 and 271.4p/kg to average 199.4p, while 188 store bullocks peaked at £1150 and 272p to level at 206.8p. Twenty seven store bulls peaked at £1080 and 257p to level at 203.6p.
