Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 39 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 237p and an average of 219p (+2p on the week), while 19 prime bullocks peaked at 232p and levelled at 210p (+2p).

In the rough ring 44 cast cows sold to £1830 and 189p to average 145p (+3p).

There were also 941 prime hoggs that sold to £115 and 250p for Texels to average 189p (-3.5p).

In the cast sheep ring heavy ewes sold to £130 for Texels and averaged £87, while light ewes peaked at £75 for Cheviots and levelled at £64.

The firm also sold 26 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 244p and an average of 209p (+3 p), while 29 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 238p and levelled at 200p (+5p). Thirty prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 238p and averaged 188p (+5p), while 35 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 178p and levelled at 147p (+2p).

In the rough ring 188 cast dairy cows sold to a top of 161p and averaged 110p (+0.6p), while 98 cast beef cows sold to 199p and averaged 136p. Twelve cast bulls sold to 164p and averaged 113p.

There were also 1861 prime hoggs that sold to £130 and 301p to average 188p (-13p). Twenty two new season prime lambs sold up to £132 and 300p to average 266p (-6p).

In the cast sheep section 63 heavy ewes sold to £109.50 for Beltex and averaged £84.92, while 30 light ewes peaked at £72.50 for Jacobs and levelled at £46.73.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1602 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £112 for a pair of Beltex and 233p/kg for a pair of Texels, to average 200p overall (n/c). Blackfaces peaked at £95 and 215p/kg.

There was a smaller offering of cast sheep this week when 156 heavy ewes sold to £137 for a Texel and averaged £82.78, while 78 light/export-types levelled at £60.45.

C&D Auction Marts Ltd sold 147 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of £1090 and 240p/kg to average 210p, while 190 store bullocks peaked at £1190 and 252p to level at 218p. Twenty store, B&W bullocks sold to £750 and 161p to average 140p, while 6 store bulls peaked at £890 and averaged 217p/kg.

The Dumfries and Galloway Young Farmers show and calf rally was won by Lara Reid with a Limousin cross bullock selling at £1300.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 30 beef cows in the rough ring yesterday to average 129p (+2p) and 24 dairy cows levelled at 107p (+3p). The 2973 prime hoggs averaged 205p (-5p) and in the cast sheep ring 835 ewes levelled at £72.50.
