Wallets Marts, Castle Douglas Limited sold 310 Store Cattle, 39 OTM cattle and 103 Breeding Cattle at their fortnightly sale on Monday. The sale was topped at £1290 for Limousin X bullocks and 286p/kg for a pen of Charolais X bullocks. Heifers sold to £1475 for Limousin crosses and 240p for Charolais. Bullocks averaged 226p or £903.62 and heifers averaged 202p or £780.67.

At the annual Spring sale of breeding cattle bulls topped at £3000 for a Limousin. Heifers with calves sold to £2400 for a Limousin X heifer with a bull calf. Bulling heifers were topped at £1160.

OTM cattle sold to 158p per kg or £1160 for a Simmental. Bulls sold to 128p for a Charolais and the overall average was 133.8p/kg.

The firm also sold 339 prime hoggs on Tuesday to a top of £102 for Texels and 205p/kg for Blackfaces to average 177p overall.

In the cast sheep section heavy ewes sold to £107.50 for Suffolks, while light ewes peaked at £64.50 for Blackfaces.

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held a catalogued sale of 480 store cattle on Tuesday. The show of predominately yearling cattle was topped at £1,280 for a Limousin heifer and bullocks sold to £1,210 also for a Limousin. There was a small offering of bulls which sold to £930.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 13 prime heifers at Ayr on Tuesday to a top of £1387 per head and 238p/kg to average £1273 or 231p, while 2 prime bullocks sold to £1319 and 242p to level at £1229 or 230p.

In the rough ring 61 beef cows sold to £1400 and averaged 134p, while 103 dairy cows peaked at £1020 and levelled at 111p. Six bulls sold to £1260 and averaged 124p, while 14 Clean Cattle peaked at £1300 to level at 162p.

Six dairy cattle sold to £1900 for a freshly calved Holstein Friesian heifer.

There were also 185 Breeding Cattle at the sale. 11 Bulls Averaged £2596.36; sixteen Heifers and Calves Averaged £1781.25; fourteen Cows and Calves Averaged £1475.45 and 144 Bulling Heifers Averaged £1020.

The firm also sold 512 prime hoggs at their weekly sale in Newton Stewart yesterday. Top prices on the day were £95.50 per head for Texels and 218p for Blackfaces with the overall average levelling at 188p (-7p). The 206 Blackface hoggs at the sale averaged 200p/kg

The 41 prime New Season lambs forward peaked at £109 or 259.5p for the same pen of 10 Suffolk lambs. The overall average was 242.5p/kg.

Cast ewes were easier on the week with 109 heavy ewes selling to £112 for Texel crosses and averaging £65.38, while 77 light ewes peaked at £64.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £56.77.
