Understated

MACFARLANE Group, the venerable packaging company, does not go in for ostentation.

The business has celebrated its 70th anniversary in understated style, with commemorative biscuits and a cake presentation for Lord and Lady Macfarlane among the modest celebratory activities.

A special film conveying congratulatory messages from colleagues and customers was also shown at the firm’s annual meeting in Glasgow this week, which Lord and Lady Macfarlane attended.

Chairman Stuart Paterson thanked Lord Macfarlane, who established the business in 1949, for his “vision and stewardship”, as well as his “ongoing support and advice”.

Clever owl

WHO is a clever owl? Sally Mackay of architecture practice Bennetts Associates, apparently.

Ms Mackay has received the latest #IndeglasCleverOwl Award her work on the Bayes Centre, the University of Edinburgh’s data science and artificial intelligence research centre.

The award is offered by Cumbernauld-based glass firm Indeglas to celebrate the contributions of individuals to the built environment.

The Indeglas team was impressed by Ms Mackay’s “quick and clever thinking” during the construction of the £45 million Bayes Centre, which was completed last September.

Ms Mackay, an associate in Bennetts’ Edinburgh office, said it had been “an honour to be so heavily involved” with the project.

Positive action

ONE of Scotland’s biggest independent hotel firms has upped its efforts to support the mental well-being of its team.

The group, whose portfolio includes Boclair House Hotel in Bearsden and The Torrance Hotel in East Kilbride, has signed up to the Hospitality Action Employee Assistance Programme.

It will effectively give Manorview staff access to support such as counselling, legal advice, debt counselling, mindfulness courses, parenting advice, substance misuse support and grant assistance.
