Wallets Marts Castle Douglas Limited sold 136 Store cattle and 19 OTM cattle at their fortnightly sale on Monday.

Store bullocks topped at £1025 for a pen of Aberdeen Angus crosses and 268p/kg for a pen of Charolais crosses. Store heifers sold up to £900 and 234p for Charolais crosses. Overall averages levelled at 208.7p for bullocks and 201p for heifers. 19 OTM cattle topped at 157p/kg for an AAX cow and to £1130 for a BBX cow. OTM bullocks sold to 150p and averaged 139p.

The firm also sold 49 new season lambs in Castle Douglas on Tuesday to a top of £104 for heavy Texels and 241p for Suffolks to average 218p, while 146 prime hoggs sold to £101 for heavy Texels and 206p for lightweight Cheviots. 221 cast sheep sold to 96.50 for Beltex and £72.50 for Blackface.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold one prime heifer at Ayr on Tuesday to a top of £1060 per head and 200p/kg, while 6 prime bullocks peaked at £1563 and 242p to level at £1414 or 216p.

In the rough ring 56 beef cows sold up to £1320 and 164p to average 152p, while 48 dairy cows peaked at £1100 or 127p to level at 109p. Eleven cast bulls sold to £1480 and 181p to average 129p, while 13 Clean, OTM cattle peaked at £1200 and 172p to level at 139p. Six dairy cattle sold to a top price of £1680 for a Holstein Friesian heifer.

C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their fortnightly sale of feeding cows, store and breeding cattle at Longtown on Tuesday.

Store cattle topped at £1,090 for an Angus bullock and heifers sold to £1,050 for a British Blue, while feeding cows sold up to £1239 and averaged £977.

Breeding cattle sold to £1,450 for a Limousin cow with a heifer calf. There was also a show of ewes & hoggs with lambs at foot. The first prize pen of Mule hoggs and lambs sold for £100 per life as did the second prize winning pen of Texel x hoggs and lambs.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 206 new season prime lambs forward at their weekly sale in Newton Stewart yesterday. Top prices on the day were £106 per head and 233p/kg with the overall average levelling at 216p. A small show of 32 SQQ lambs averaged 230.8p kg. There were also 546 prime hoggets forward that sold up to 202p for Beltex or £88 for a pen of Texels and levelled at 174p overall.

In the cast sheep ring 43 heavy ewes sold to £100 for a single Suffolk and averaged £69.83, while 39 light/export-type ewes peaked at £62.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £58.17.
