Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 42 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 284p and an average of 219p (n/c), while 21 prime bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 217p (+8p). In the rough ring 46 cast cows sold to £1293 and 159p to average 131p (-2p).

There were also 1364 prime lambs that sold to £119 and 245p for Beltex to average £90 or 217p (+4.5p), while 122 prime hoggs sold to £108 and 188p for Suffolks to average £90 or 161p (n/c).

In the cast sheep ring 310 cast ewes averaged £72 overall with heavy ewes selling to £115 for Texels and averaging £87, while light ewes peaked at £71 for Cheviots and levelled at £61.

The firm also sold 27 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 228p and an average of 203p (-8p), while 38 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 223p and levelled at 194p (-2). Eleven prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 146p and averaged 139p (n/a). Fifty two prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 203p and averaged 173p (n/c), while 32 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 169p and levelled at 143p (-4p).

In the rough ring 131 cast dairy cows sold to 175p and averaged 101p (+2p), while 66 cast beef cows peaked at 182p and levelled at 130p (-6p). Thirteen cast bulls sold to 153p and averaged 134p (+10p).

There were also 1113 prime lambs that sold to £116 and 302p to average 220p (-3p).

In the cast sheep section 143 heavy ewes sold to £119 and averaged £84 (+£10), while 11 light ewes peaked at £57 for Swaledales and levelled at £47 (-£15).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1490 Sheep comprising 1268 Prime Lambs and 222 Cast Ewes and Tups at Ayr yesterday. It was also their Annual Show and Sale of Prime Texel Lambs held in Conjunction with the Scottish Texel Sheep Breeders Club. The Champion Lambs, shown by J & R Semple, Netherton, Dalrymple, scaled 44kg and fetched £128 or 291p being bought by the Judge Mr J Nisbet. The 75 Prime Texel Show Lambs forward averaged 222p or £93.

The 1268 prime Lambs out-with the show sold to £109 or 232p to average 215p.

In the cast sheep ring heavy ewes sold to £135 for a pure Texel and light/export-type ewes peaked at £61 for Blackface.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 43 prime bullocks and heifers at Lanark yesterday. Prime heifers sold to 258p and £1470, while bullocks peaked at £1416 and 236p.

Prime lambs were topped at £115 for Texels and 265p for Beltex to average 219p overall. Cast ewes peaked at £153 for a Beltex and the lighter ewes sold up to £76 for Blackface.
