C&D Auction Marts Limited sold 5,518 prime lambs at Longtown on Thursday to a top of £105 for Texels and 253p/kg for Beltex. The overall price per kilo was 185p (-5p).
There were also 5,796 cast ewes and rams forward which averaged £60.77. The sale was topped at £146 for Texel ewes with hill ewes to £73 for Blackfaces.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 40 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 238p/kg and an average of 212p (+1p), while 22 prime bullocks peaked at 228p and levelled at 192p (n/c).
In the Rough Ring 69 cast cows sold to £ 1368 and 169p to average 129p (-6p).
There were also 1271 prime lambs that sold to £111 and 208p for Beltex to average 179p (-7p).
In the cast sheep section 503 cast ewes averaged £68 overall. Heavy ewes peaked at £123 for Texels and averaged £81, while light ewes peaked at £63 for Cheviots and levelled at £51.
The firm also sold 29 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 227p and an average of 196p (-2p), while 28 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 229p and levelled at 189p (-8p). Sixty-three prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 214p and averaged 183p (+12p), while 28 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 168p and levelled at 140p (+4 p).
In the Rough Ring 223 cast dairy cows sold to 139p to average 95p (-1p), while 102 cast beef cows peaked at 194p and averaged 129p (+3p). Eight cast bulls made up to 142p and averaged 120p (-5p).
There were also 1426 prime lambs that sold to £110 and 237p to average 189p (+2p).
In the cast sheep ring 143 heavy ewes sold to £109 for Texels and averaged £60 (-£11.00).
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 49 prime bullocks and heifers in Lanark yesterday. Prime heifers peaked at £1470 and 250p, while prime bullocks sold to £1447 and 234p. In the rough ring cast beef cows peaked at £1235 and 161p, while cast dairy cows topped at £935 and 117p. Cast bulls sold to £1270.
There were also 2270 prime lambs forward which sold to £103 and 243p for Texels to average 165p (-12p).
There was a smaller show of cast sheep this week when 703 ewes peaked at £136 for heavy Texels, while light ewes were topped at £54 for Blackface.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1354 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £90 per head for a pair of Texels and 183p/kg for a single Texel, to average 169p (-7p). Cast sheep were topped by a pen of Texel ewes at £122, while lighter ewes peaked at £66 for Cheviots.
