C & D Auctions ltd held their 2nd sale of Scotch Mule ewe lambs in Dumfries on Saturday. 1500 Scotch mule ewe lambs sold to a top of £106 and levelled at £78.82.
The firm also held their fortnightly sale of store cattle in Dumfries yesterday when there were 501 head forward. A feature of the sale was 90 BBX bullocks (15 month) from the same farm which sold to £1095 and averaged £930 or 202.2p/kg. There were also Limousin bullocks which sold to £1090; Charolais to £1035; Salers to £1030 and Simmentals to £1030. Aberdeen Angus heifers peaked at £1010; Simmentals to £960; Charolais to £945 and Limousins to £1010.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 40 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 250p/kg and an average of 194p (-3p), while 13 prime bullocks peaked at 222p and levelled at 198 p (+9p).
In the Rough Ring 30 cast cows sold to £1142p and 155p to average 118p (-11p).
There were also 1831 prime lambs that sold to £99 and 214p for Beltex to average 167p (+2p).
In the cast sheep section 533 ewes averaged £60 (+£7) overall. Heavy ewes peaked at £107 for Texels and averaged £77, while light ewes peaked at £73 for Cheviots and levelled at £47.
The firm also sold 23 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 241p and an average of 199p (-2p), while 11 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 211p and levelled at 190p (-6p). Seventy-nine prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 209p and averaged 176p (+4p), while 33 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 179p and levelled at 131p (-3p).
In the Rough Ring 226 cast dairy cows sold to 130p and averaged 98p (+3p), while cast beef cows peaked at 189p and averaged 126p (-3p). Thirteen cast bulls made up to 160p and averaged 126p (-15p).
There were also 2532 prime lambs that sold to £104 and 241p/kg to average 171p (+4p).
In the cast sheep ring 207 heavy ewes sold to £96.50 for Texels and averaged £62.85 (-£3.84), while 108 light ewes peaked at £76.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £37.29 (+£11.67).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2665 Sheep at Ayr yesterday comprising 1789 prime lambs and 876 cast sheep. Top price lamb was £88 on two separate occasions. Firstly, for a pen of three Beltex Lambs and then for a pen of Texel’s. Top price per kilo was 204.7p for another pen of Beltex’s. The whole sale averaged 160p (+4p).
The 876 cast sheep sold to a top of £160 for Texel ewes, with two pens at £155 and £153 off the same home. Mule ewes sold to £66 with Blackface ewes to £50.
