BRANDS and assets of the failed Fife shopfitter Havelock International have been snapped up by an English-based contract furniture specialist.

Havelock International, which manufactured and installed furniture across the education, healthcare, retail, banking and student accommodation sectors, collapsed into administration with the loss of more than 250 jobs in September, when it succumbed to challenging trading conditions.

The business had been relaunched just a year previously, with the purchase of the former Havelock Europa company out of administration.

It emerged yesterday that Mansfield-based Deanestor, which employs sales and project managers in Dunfermline, has acquired the intangible assets of Havelock International for an undisclosed sum.

These include the rights to the Havelock International brand and 13 sub-brands, registered trademarks and product lines, among them ESA Healthcare and ESA McIntosh, the education fit out brand. ESA McIntosh has a history stretching back to the 1960s, when Alexander Henry McIntosh began employed skilled crafts people to make elaborate cabinetry.

Deanestor, however, will not be creating jobs and has not acquired Havelock’s manufacturing premises.

Richard Tonkinson, executive director of Deanestor, said the firm is “well-placed to build on Havelock’s long history and market position, and continue to service its client base in these core sectors.”
