MORE than 16,000 tonnes of steelwork is going up for the £1 billion Edinburgh St James project.
The main steelwork contractor is Scottish firm BHC Ltd which has been commissioned to supply, fabricate and erect over the steelwork and approximately 110,000 sqm of metal decking.

Gyoury Self Partnership, which has bases across the south of England, is working with BHC Ltd on the steel connection designs.
Gyoury Self said: “We have been working on the project since last year, providing steel connection design work for BHC Ltd; a major structural steelwork design and installation company based in South Lanarkshire.
“To meet the demands of this extensive re-development project, Gyoury Self has been enlisted to design a wide spectrum of standard and non-standard connection designs; ranging from simple flexible end plate connections, to full end plate connections under extremely high tie forces, as well as many complex connections with a range of angles and section sizes.”
It said the latest design technology and software is being used, including IDEAStatiCa for the design and code-check of the more challenging connection designs.

When complete, Edinburgh St James will offer 850,000 sq. ft. of prime retail, food and leisure space, as well as a luxury standard W Hotel and 152 private residential apartments.
The retail and leisure element is anticipated to complete in 2020, followed by full scheme completion in 2021.
