HARRISON & Hetherington Ltd sold 55 clean cattle, 81 cast cows, 1,811 prime lambs and 463 ewes at St Boswells yesterday.
The 25 prime heifers forward peaked at 240p/kg and averaged 208p (-1p), while 26 prime bullocks sold to 221p and levelled at 180p (-5p).
In the rough ring the 81 cast cows sold to £1,409 and 163p to average 124p (+3p).
The 1,811 prime lambs sold to £104 and 235p for Beltex lambs to average £87 or 190p (+13p).
In the cast sheep ring the overall average for 463 head was £66.69. Heavy ewes sold to £119 for Texels and averaged £87, while light ewes peaked at £87 for Cheviots and averaged £47.
The firm also sold 52 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 232p and an average of 189p (-1p), while 40 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 185p (+11p). Sixty-four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 221p and averaged 181p (+8), while 21 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 164p and levelled at 132p (n/c).
In the rough ring 181 cast dairy cows sold to 139p and averaged 85p (+1p), while 196 cast beef cows peaked at 198p and averaged 116p (+1p). Fourteen cast bulls made up to 148p and averaged 114p (+21p).
There were also 2,834 prime lambs that sold to £110 and 262p/kg to average 185p (+8p).
In the cast sheep ring 179 heavy ewes sold to £110.50 for Texels and averaged £74.46 (+£15), while 81 light ewes peaked at £68 for Blackfaces and levelled at £41.95 (+£2).
C&D Auction Marts held its fortnightly sale of 266 store cattle in Dumfries yesterday. Limousin cross bullocks sold to £1,105 with Simmental bullocks to 237p. Charolais cross heifers peaked at £1,070 with other Limousin cross heifers to 216p. Limousin bulls sold to £1,015 and 219p. Caledonian Marts had forward 309 store cattle and suckled calves, and 1,062 store lambs, breeding and feeding ewes at their fortnightly sale yesterday.
Bullocks sold to 265p/kg and to £1,120 for Limousins from two separate consigners, while heifers sold to 288p and £1,080 for the same Limousin.
Store lambs sold to £78.50 for a pen of Texels. Suffolks peaked at £75.50 with Charolais lambs making up to £75 and Beltex sold to £71.
Top prices for ewes were £80 for crosses and £74 for correct Cheviots.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2,779 sheep in Ayr yesterday comprising 2055 prime lambs and 724 cast sheep. Prime lambs sold to a top of £95 on three occasions and to 214p/kg on two occasions to average 181.4p overall (+9p).
Cast sheep peaked at £107 for a Texel ewe, while Mule ewes sold to £73.50 and Blackfaces to £56.
