Dark comedy: Investors in Quiz have not had much to cheer about this year, with the losses unveiled for its first-half sending shares into a fresh tailspin yesterday.
But even in difficult times it is possible to see some humour.
Responding to yesterday’s results from the clothing retailer, stockbroker Brewin Dolphin titled its commentary a “nightmare before Christmas”.
On current form, it is unlikely many shareholders would disagree.
Rockin’ Rudolph: Innis & Gunn, on the other hand, would appear to be more enthusiastic about the upcoming festivities.
The Edinburgh-based firm has teamed up with Highlands hospitality business Cru Holdings to create its first-ever collaboration brew in time for Christmas.
The limited-edition Rudolph the Red Nose Rye Beer, which features festive flavours orange zest and cinnamon, will be on sale in Scotch & Rye and Bar One, in Inverness, this week, with £1 from every pint sold going to the Mission Christmas Cash for Kids campaign.
Grant Murray, of Cru Holdings, said: “We have a long-standing relationship with Innis & Gunn, so we spoke to the team about joining forces to turn the competition entries into a drink to serve in our bars this December.
“Christmas is also a time for giving and we were keen to support MFR’s Mission Christmas campaign which makes such a difference to children at Christmas.”
Gotts for Glasgow: Jane Gotts, the founding partner of Glasgow-based data consultancy GenAnalytics, has added a new string to her bow.
The Scottish businesswoman, whose firm aims to improve business performance by enhancing diversity in the workplace, has been appointed deputy chairman of the board of governors at The Glasgow Academy, a new role.
Ms Gotts, who has been a member of the board for the last three years, said:
“I am delighted to be taking on this new role as deputy chair at The Glasgow Academy in what is an exciting time for the School. I look forward to continuing to lend my skills and expertise.”
