HARRISON & Hetherington Ltd sold 71 clean cattle, 53 cast cows, 1,108 prime hoggs and 719 cast sheep at St Boswells yesterday.
Fifty-six prime heifers sold to a top of 238p/kg to average 218p (+1p).Fifteen prime bullocks peaked at 234p and averaged 216p (+7p).
In the rough ring cast cows sold to £1,505 and 189p/kg to average 141p (+16p).
Prime hoggs sold to £123 and 256p for Beltex to average £90 and 209p (+2p).
In the cast sheep ring the overall average was £85.83 (+£3) for all sheep. Heavy ewes sold to £145 for Texels and averaged £102, while light ewes peaked at £107 for Cheviots and averaged £72.
The firm also sold 36 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 231p/kg and an average of 205p (-2p), while 16 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 218p and levelled at 188p (-2p). Five prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 171p and averaged 165p (-2p).
Seventy-two prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 228p and averaged 190p (-9p), while 42 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 181p and levelled at 153p (n/c).
In the rough ring 243 cast dairy cows sold to 170p and averaged 99p (n/c), while 125 cast beef cows peaked at 206p and averaged 125p (-8p). Fourteen cast bulls made up to 136p and averaged 113p (-5p).
There were also 1,573 prime hoggets that sold to £126 and 303p/kg to average 211p (+1p).
In the cast sheep ring 130 heavy ewes sold to £138.50 for a Texel and averaged £93 (-£10), while 30 light ewes peaked at £69 for Swaledales and levelled at £56 (-£9).
Caledonian Marts had forward 348 store cattle, and 942 store sheep at their fortnightly sale at Stirling yesterday.
Bullocks averaged 216p/kg, selling to 276p for a pen of Limousins and to £1,210 for a single Limousin.
Heifers averaged 208p, selling to 234p for a pen of Limousins and to £1140 for a single Limousin.
Store Hoggets were the dearest trade of the season selling to a top of £95 for a pen of Texels. The overall average was £70.10 for the store hoggets.
Messrs Craig Wilson sold 1,864 sheep at Ayr yesterday comprising 1,401 prime hoggets and 463 cast sheep. Top prices on the day were £110 for a pen of four Beltex prime hoggets and the same for a pair of Texels. Top spot per kilo was 238.6p/kg for a pair of Beltex. Blackface hoggets peaked at £93.50 for a pen of twelve and 212.5p/kg for another pen.
The whole sale averaged 206p or £91 per head.
Cast sheep held onto last week’s trade with Texel ewes selling to £180, while Mule ewes sold to £94.50 and Blackfaces topped at £71.
