HARRISON & Hetherington Ltd sold 59 clean cattle, 43 cast cows, 1,369 prime hoggs and 544 cast sheep at St Boswells yesterday.

Thirty-eight prime heifers sold to 246p/kg to average 213p (-9p), while 18 prime bullocks peaked at 240p and averaged 211p (+10p). Three young bulls sold to 165p and averaged 152p.

In the rough ring 43 cast cows sold to £1,417 and 185p to average 141p (+11p).

Prime hoggets sold to £123 and 279p for Beltex to average £94 and 217p (+1p).

In the cast sheep ring the average was £74.57 for all sheep. Heavy ewes sold to £127 for Suffolks and averaged £100, while light ewes peaked at £111 for Cheviots and averaged £69.

The firm also sold 33 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 225p/kg and an average of 194p (-11p), while 24 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 218p and levelled at 194p (-8p). Three prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 167p to average 155p.

There were also 96 young bulls in total at the sale yesterday which averaged 165p overall (+5p).

The 52 prime, beef-bred young bulls sold to 220p and averaged 185p (+8p), while 44 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 178p and levelled at 140p (-1p).

In the rough ring 240 cast dairy cows sold to 160p and averaged 101p (n/c), while 116 cast beef cows peaked at 173p and averaged 129p (+1p). Nine cast bulls made up to 148p and averaged 120p (-7p).

There were also 1,561 prime hoggets that sold to £126 and 295p/kg to average 222p (+9p).

In the cast sheep ring 154 heavy ewes sold to £144 for a Texel and averaged £92 (+£7), while 29 light ewes peaked at £97 for a Hill Cheviot and levelled at £64 (+£21).

Messrs Craig Wilson sold 1,444 Sheep at Ayr yesterday, comprising 1,217 prime hoggets and 227 cast sheep.

Top price per head and per kilo was £107 or 254.8p for a pair of Beltex. Mule hoggets sold to £97 for a pen of 33 or 204.6 pence per kilo. Blackface hoggets topped at £91 or 213 pence per kilo. The 224 Blackfaces averaged 208 pence per kilo with the whole sale averaging 212p.

In the cast sheep section top price was £176 for Texel ewes, while Beltex cross ewes sold to £137. Mules peaked £109 with Blackfaces to £78.

C&D Auction Marts sold 312 store cattle at their fortnightly sale in Dumfries yesterday.

Heifers sold to a top of £1,120 and 225p/kg to average 200p, while bullocks (Suckler) peaked at £1115 and 239p to average 208p. Dairy-bred bullocks topped at £1110 and 220p to level at 196p. Young bulls sold to £890 and 196p to average 176p.
