Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 70 clean cattle, 38 cast cows, 1479 prime hoggets and 311 cast sheep at St Boswells yesterday.
Fifty-three prime heifers sold to a top of 249p/kg to average 216p (+1p), while 16 prime bullocks peaked at 222p and averaged 207p (+2p). One young bull sold to 160p (n/c).
In the Rough Ring cast cows sold to £1481 and 173p to average 139p (+13p).
Prime hoggets sold to £136 and 307p for Beltex to average £105 or 239p (+13p).
In the cast sheep ring the average was £82.31 for all sheep. Heavy ewes sold to £143 for Texels and averaged £99, while light ewes peaked at £100 for Cheviots and averaged £75.
The firm also sold 23 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 227p/kg to average 203p (+2p), while 24 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 220p and levelled at 200p (+7p).
There were also a total of 76 young bulls at the sale yesterday which averaged 171p overall (+16p). The 50 prime, beef-bred young bulls sold to 233p and averaged 186p (+16p), while the 26 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 190p and levelled at 144p (+4p).
In the Rough Ring 153 cast dairy cows sold to 149p and averaged 108p (+3p), while 100 cast beef cows peaked at 190p and averaged 139p (+6p). Six cast bulls made up to 157p and averaged 136p (+19p).
There were also 1127 prime hoggets that sold to £148 and 312p/kg to average 245p (+20p).
In the cast sheep ring 28 heavy ewes sold to £141 for a Dutch Texel and averaged £102 (+£10), while 70 light ewes peaked at £110 for a Leicester and levelled at £70 (+£6).
C & D Auction Marts Ltd sold 225 store cattle at their fortnightly sale in Dumfries yesterday. Bullocks topped at £1230 for British Blues and to 260p/kg for Charolais. Heifers sold to £1200 for Aberdeen Angus and to 237p for Limousins.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2061 sheep comprising 1488 prime hoggets and 573 cast sheep at Ayr yesterday.
Top Price of the day was £136 for a strong Texel and close behind was £132 for a pen of Texels, while top price per kilo was 270p for a pen of ten Beltex. Blackface hoggets sold to £104 or 237p for a pen of 21, while topping the Mule hoggets was a pen of 46 which fetched £110 or 235p for a different pen. The Whole Sale Averaged 234p.
Cast Sheep sold to a top price of £170 for a Texel ewe with over 46 pens of cast sheep selling at £100 plus. Mule Ewes sold to £104, while Cheviot ewes sold to £110 and Blackfaces £78.50.
