Harrison & Hetherington sold 63 clean cattle, 64 cast cows, 537 lambs, 165 hoggs and 217 ewes at St Boswells on Monday.
Forty prime heifers sold to 236p and averaged 212p (+1p), while 22 prime bullocks peaked at 224p levelling at 212p (+7p). One young bull sold for 212p/kg.
In the rough ring 64 cast cows topped at £1,624 and 185p to average 141p (+2p). Some 537 new season prime lambs sold to £122 and 285p for Texels to average 248p (-10p), while 165 prime hoggets peaked at £112 and 222p for Cheviots to level at 182p (n/c).
In the cast sheep ring, 165 ewes sold to average £75 overall – £8 less on the week. Heavy ewes sold to £113 for Texels and averaged £84, while light ewes peaked at £88 for Cheviots and averaged £66. Twenty prime heifers sold in Carlisle on Monday to a top of 235p/kg and an average of 205p (+6p), while 17 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 214p levelling at 190p (+3p). Two dairy-bred prime bullock sold to 166p and averaged 163p.
A total of 88 young bulls averaged 164p (-5). The 46 beef-bred bulls sold to 220p and averaged 179p (-3p), while 42 dairy-bred bulls peaked at 184p and levelled at 148p (-6p).
In the rough ring 101 cast dairy cows sold to 172p and averaged 115p (+6p), while 77 cast beef cows peaked at 183p to average 136p (+3p). Seven cast bulls sold to 160p and averaged 139p (-1p). Some 824 new season prime lambs sold to £135 and 317p to average 254p overall (-19p), while 158 prime hoggets sold to £124 and 251p/kg to average 195p overall (-1p). Cast sheep sold up to £118 for a Beltex with 124 heavy ewes averaging £91 (-£6), while 76 light ewes peaked at £115 for a Greyface and levelled at £63 (-£11).
Messrs Craig Wilson sold 245 prime Spring lambs at Ayr on Monday. A pair of Texels topped at £126 and 310p/kg for a pen. New season lambs averaged 256p. The 428 prime hoggs were an end of season offer. Top price for a strong pen of Texels was £94, while Blackface hoggs sold to £91 for 26. Top price per kilo was 209p for a pen of Suffolks, Blackfaces peaked at 200p.
