Royal Warrant holding butcher Donald Russell has appointed ex-Morrisons marketing director Mike Hoban as its new chief executive.

Based near Aberdeen, Donald Russell is a leading online supplier of grass-fed beef and lamb. A part of the privately-owned Vestey group of food businesses, its customers include some of the most prestigious hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants in the world.

Prior to his five years at Morrisons, Mr Hoban held broader senior roles with British Airways, Confused.com and Scottish Widows. George Vestey, chief executive of Vestey Holdings, said Mr Hoban joins a strengthened board of directors tasked with maximising opportunities for future growth.

“With a strong track record of championing customer service and engaged, motivated, focused teams, we are looking forward to seeing the results he will deliver for our customers across the trade and export sectors, as well as direct to consumer,” Mr Vestey said.

“We have seen some strong business results recently for our direct to consumer service, and the opportunity to push this further forward will play well with Mike’s experience at shaping, delivering and maintaining positive change.”
