HARRISON & Hetherington sold 74 clean cattle, 45 cast cows, 1,265 prime lambs and 336 cast sheep at St Boswells yesterday.

Twenty-four prime bullocks sold to a top of 233p/kg to average 221p (+7p), while 48 prime heifers peaked at 235p to average 212p (-5p).

In the rough ring cast cows sold to £1,500 and 179p to average 144p (n/c).

New season prime lambs slipped four pence on last week’s trade to average 227p/kg. Top prices were £124 and 255p for Beltex.

In the cast sheep ring the average for all cast sheep was £84 which was an increase of £14 per head. Heavy ewes sold to £119 for Texels and averaged £92, while light ewes peaked at £85 for Cheviots and averaged £70.

The firm also sold 16 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to 234p/kg to average 212p (-6p), while 26 prime, beef bred bullocks sold to 220p and levelled at 200p (-2p). Three prime, dairy bred bullocks peaked at 177p and averaged 165p (-3p).

Sixty-two beef-bred young bulls sold to 227p and averaged 183p (+1p), while 41 dairy-bred bulls peaked at 177p and levelled at 150p (+11p). In the rough ring 183 cast dairy cows sold to 170p to average 115p (+2p), while 86 cast beef cows peaked at 200p to average 147p (+10p). Twelve cast bulls made up to 170p and averaged 124p (-13p).

There were also 2,137 prime lambs that sold to £130 and 310p/kg to average 235p (+1p).

In the cast sheep ring 116 heavy ewes sold to £124 for a Texel and averaged £84 (-£5), while 68 light ewes peaked at £81 for a Greyfaced and levelled at £60 (-£5).

Messrs Craig Wilson sold 1,424 prime lambs and 509 cast sheep at Ayr yesterday.

Top prices were £123 for a pair of Texels and 251p/kg for a pen of three Texels. The whole sale averaged 224 pence per kilo (+29p on the year).

The numbers of cast sheep at the sale increased this week and prices were up. Heavy ewes peaked at £170 for Texels, while Texel crosses sold to £142. Mule ewes sold to £85 with Blackfaces selling to £63.

Lawrie and Symington sold 46 prime cattle and 65 cast cattle at Lanark yesterday.

Prime heifers sold to 260p/kg and to £1800, while bullocks sold to 248p and £1,502. Cast beef cows sold to 193p or £1500, while cast dairy cows peaked at 160p or £1000.

There were also 1,131 prime lambs and 2163 cast sheep at the sale. Prime lambs peaked at £126 and 272p for Texels to average 227p overall.

A large show of cast sheep was topped at £170 for Texels and to £74 for Blackface.
