EasyJet has boosted its financial position by concluding a previously-announced sale and leaseback for 23 aircraft, generating proceeds of $771 million (£608m).

The airline said the proceeds from the deal are at the upper end of the £500m to £650m anticipated. The deal was struck with Jin Shan 37 Ireland Company, owned by Bank of Communications subsidiary BOCOMM Leasing.

EasyJet, which will lease the aeroplanes back from the new owner, said the proceeds will be used maximise its liquidity and strengthen its financial position.
