Harrison & Hetherington sold 53 clean cattle, 60 cast cows, 2,226 prime lambs and 939 cast sheep at St Boswells yesterday.
Thirteen prime bullocks sold to a top of 246p/kg to average 232p (+10p), while 36 prime heifers peaked at 264p to average 230p (+8p). Four young bulls sold to £1,428.
In the rough ring cast cows sold to £1,463 and 179p to average 144p (-3p).
Prime lambs peaked at £112 and 265p/kg for Beltex to average 191p overall (-7p).
All the cast sheep averaged £66 this week. Heavy ewes sold to a top of £120 for Texels and averaged £94 (+£1), while light ewes peaked at £83 for North Country Cheviots and averaged £53 (+£2).
The firm also sold 14 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday which peaked at 245p/kg and levelled at 206p (-35p), while 11 prime, beef-bred bullocks sold to 248p and levelled at 225p (+22p).
Seventy beef-bred young bulls sold to 225p and averaged 185p (-2p), while 31 dairy-bred bulls peaked at 178p and levelled at 149p (-6p).
In the rough ring 169 cast dairy cows sold to 165p to average 98p (-5p), while 128 cast beef cows peaked at 207p to average 136p (-8p). Twelve cast bulls sold to 185p and levelled at 139p (+20p).
Prime lambs (1,984) sold to £124 and 318p/kg to average 201p (-4p). In the cast sheep section 203 heavy ewes peaked at £104 for Texels and averaged £73 (-£5), while 85 hill ewes were topped at £77 for Blackfaces and averaged £42 (-£15).
Messrs Craig Wilson sold 1,991 prime lambs and 939 cast sheep at Ayr yesterday. Prime lambs sold dearer than expected with the whole sale averaging 195p (n/c). However, lambs which weighed more than 50kg were the hardest category to sell on the day. Top price at the sale was £100 for a pair of Beltex lambs, while the price per kilo peaked at 262p for a single Beltex.
All classes of cast sheep were in demand with a top price of £142 being paid for a pen of Texel Ewes. Texel crosses sold to £127 for two lots and Mule ewes peaked at £85, while Blackface ewes sold to £73 for a pen of 16.
Caledonian Marts Ltd sold 488 store cattle at their fortnightly sale in Stirling yesterday. Bullocks peaked at 254p/kg for a pen of Limousins and at £1220 for a different pen of Limousins to average 218p overall.
Heifers sold to 270p for a pen of Limousins and to £1220 for a pen of Charolais to average 214p.
Black & Whites averaged 171p and sold to 178p for a pen of 20 and to £1000 for another pen from the same home.
