CONFIDENCE among Scottish businesses has worsened again this month, after having been less negative in September than August, a survey shows.

Bank of Scotland’s business barometer also shows a net balance of 32 per cent of firms north of the Border expect to reduce staff over the next year, with this reading six points worse than last month.

Fraser Sime, of Bank of Scotland, said: “Covid-19 restrictions continue to change in response to the pandemic, contributing to an environment of uncertainty which brings with it demand-dampening effects. Unsurprisingly, this is having an impact on firms’ confidence."

He added: "We recognise that tough trading conditions lie ahead for many.”
