Private cosmetic surgery provider Cosmedicare has been granted planning permission to set up a new hospital in Livingston.

The existing facility on the Kirkton Campus has previously been home to companies such as Glenmorangie, WL Gore, Quintiles and BskyB. The 12,443sq ft pavilion will undergo a significant programme of refurbishment to bring it in line with Health Improvement Scotland (HIS) regulations before the hospital opens in the summer of 2021.

Operating as a day case medical provider, the new St Ellen’s Hospital will have two operating theatres with private en-suite recovery rooms alongside recovery wards. Plans also include three minor ops suits, two treatment rooms and a laser suite with four consultation rooms.

Procedures will range from breast reconstruction, facial rejuvenation and gender reassignments to cancer excisions, aesthetics and burn treatments.

“We are absolutely delighted that our plans have been approved, and with the support we’ve received for it from the medical community and the public,” Cosmedicare managing director Gill Baird said.

“These proposals herald a new era of healthcare provision with St Ellen’s delivering a more holistic, practitioner-focused facility than the traditional private hospital set-up with the patient pathway central to the service.”
