The developer behind the construction of more than 600 homes in the suburbs of Edinburgh is seeking a partner or buyer for the first phases of the £210 million project.

Alba Developments is looking for a joint venture partner, or alternatively is looking to sell the 13.5 acres that make up phases one and two of the Edmonstone development next to the city’s BioQuarter scheme. Talks are also taking place with potential funders to back build-to-rent homes on the site.

The first two phases are to the north of the site and have planning consent for more than 300 homes, with a mix of 62 per cent housing and 38% flats. Affordable housing makes up 36% of the total homes.

The site is next to the £1 billion BioQuarter Scheme, which is expected to underpin demand for housing in the area. Approximately 8,000 people are currently employed within the BioQuarter, though that is expected to eventually rise to 20,000.

It is also approximately a mile from Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary, and less than five miles to the south-east of the city centre.

“These homes have been promised to the local community for a number of years now and Alba Developments will finally bring the site to life after so many years,” said Shane Ticklepenny, managing director of the Alba Group.

Phases three and four include a further 300 homes, which are under offer to housebuilders. Alba intends to develop the final fifth phase, which is currently consented for 84 homes.

Alba Developments is owned by the Guernsey-based Alba Group of development, landscaping and construction companies. It owns three sites in Scotland – Edmonstone, Westfield in West Lothian and Gretna in the Borders.
