THREE senior figures in Scotland’s food and drink sector have been appointed to the board of industry leadership body Scotland Food & Drink.

Marion MacCormick, Andy McGowan and Andrew Ley will bolster the board’s expertise in retail, legal and red meat as the food and drink industry recovers from coronavirus and faces the challenges posed by Brexit.

Ms MacCormick, a former director of Aldi in Scotland, co-owns Glasgow-based food business Aldomak and maintains other leadership positions across the Scottish food and drink industry while Mr McGowan brings over 25 years’ experience in the meat and livestock sector and is currently the managing director of Scottish Pig Producers, the co-operative that markets pigs for family farms in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Meanwhile, Mr Ley is a partner at law firm Addleshaw Goddard and has more than 20 years’ experience in advising food and drink businesses on legal matters.

The new board members will help steer overarching strategy for Scotland’s £15 billion sector.

Dennis Overton, chairman of Scotland Food & Drink, said: “Their experience in their respective fields and considerable expertise in industry leadership will be invaluable to the board’s work towards the continued success of the sector.

“Like all industries, Scotland’s food and drink sector has been hard hit by coronavirus and as we look to bounce back stronger than ever, the experience and leadership of our new board members will be crucial to put in place the strategies for success.”
