A VEGAN snack created in Scotland for sufferers of irritable bowel syndrome is to be stocked in more than 100 Lidl stores.
Fodilicious Cookie Buttons is the first snack range of Livingston-based Fodilicious, founded in 2017 by Lauren Leisk, a graduate of Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.
“We are really excited to supply Lidl as our first major supermarket retailer across Scotland,” Ms Leisk said. “Our Cookie Buttons have been a huge success and featuring in their Veganuary promotion will allow us to raise our brand awareness to a new customer market.”
One in five people across the UK suffers from irritable bowel syndrome, a common condition that affects the digestive system and can cause stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. Certain groups of carbohydrates are known to trigger digestive problems. These are known as FODMAP carbohydrates – standing for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides and monosaccharides and polyols.
Fodilicious says its product is the UK’s first low FODMAP certified, gut-friendly, bite-sized snack for irritable bowel syndrome, which is also vegan and plant-based, gluten free certified by Coeliac UK, 100% natural and a healthier snack choice that is less than 100 calories.
The company is to supply the snacks to 104 Scottish stores of discount retailer Lidl, where they will be in store from 31 December.
Paul McQuade, head of Scottish buying at Lidl GB, said, “We’re delighted to welcome Fodilicious’ Cookie Buttons to our Scottish stores as part of our Veganuary in-store promotion. These innovative snacks, produced in the heart of Scotland, are delicious, and we hope appeal to new and existing customers alike.
The snacks were developed with support from the Scottish Centre for Food Development and Innovation at Queen Margaret University, where Ms Leisk graduated in 2016.
Since it was set up, Fodilicious has won awards in competitions including Scottish EDGE, the Scottish start-up competition.
