South Lanarkshire College has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Stella McManus as Depute Principal.

As a senior manager in education with an established track record of leading, strategising and managing academic departments, Stella takes on the role following 16 years in the English further education sector, most recently as Deputy Principal at Waltham Forest College.

Commenting on her new role, Stella said: “I am passionate about supporting the College’s vision to widen access and deliver educational opportunities for adults and young people from a wide range of backgrounds.

“This is such an important time for the education sector as we continue to navigate challenging circumstances.  Achieving economic recovery will be very much driven by a workforce that can adapt to a changing employment landscape.

“The College’s focus on strong relationships with industry and preparing students with the skills, confidence and enthusiasm they need to go on to secure successful careers was a key driver in applying for the role.  I plan to further strengthen the College’s position nationally, as well as cementing it as an anchor institution in South Lanarkshire through serving the needs of its communities and employers.”

Aileen McKechnie, Principal and CEO of South Lanarkshire College, said: “We are all delighted at South Lanarkshire College to welcome Stella to her new role as Depute Principal, particularly important at this time when the College has such a critical role to play in social and economic recovery as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and understand the implications of Brexit.  Stella brings a wealth of relevant experience and expertise to the role, and will work with us to build on the excellent work already being undertaken by the College to secure success for our students.”
