A 151-home development in Glasgow's east end, next to the River Clyde walkway, has won planning approval.

Announcing yesterday that it had been granted consent by Glasgow City Council for the Newhall Street project, affordable housing developer Swan Group flagged the part the new homes would play in regeneration efforts.

Comprising five blocks, the development will provide a mix of one and two-bedroom flats. Glasgow-based Swan Group noted three of the blocks would be next to the River Clyde walkway.

The developer noted the new homes would be less than two miles from the city centre. It declared the development, which is part of the Clyde Gateway regeneration project, would provide "vital affordable homes for people who want to live and work close to Glasgow city centre".

Swan Group added: "Residents can be in the heart of Glasgow in under 10 minutes by bike, or half-an-hour by foot, with the advantage of travelling through Glasgow Green which is situated right next to the development."

It noted that planning for Newhall Street had been overseen by City Design. Swan Group added: "With four areas of general amenity space and private garden grounds for ground-floor flats, residents will be part of a community with ample outdoor space for people to enjoy."

The developer has recently concluded a contract with fund manager PfP Capital to deliver all 151 units.

Swan Group managing director Phil McGinlay said the "development is set to revitalise an area in Glasgow’s east end which will offer residents unrivalled, safe access to the city centre".

He added: "We look forward to delivering more high-quality affordable homes for the workers and families who are integral to the future of Glasgow city.”

William Kyle, fund director at PfP Capital, said: "We are delighted to be working with Swan Group to deliver a further 151 high-quality affordable homes for the Mid-Market Rent Fund."
