FALKIRK-based Alexander Dennis Limited has declared its work on a new model of double-deck hydrogen buses will be a “milestone” in the development of zero-emission technology

ADL, now part of North America’s NFI Group, revealed its “next generation” bus will have a net-zero emission range of up to 300 miles.

The company said its work on the H2.0 project supports the development of skills in the growing clean vehicle technology sector and boosts the green economy, while helping to deliver Government net-zero targets. It hopes the first double-deck buses that harness the technology, powered by a Ballard fuel cell power module, will be on the road before the end of the year.

Paul Davies, ADL president and managing director, said: “H2.0 is going to be a milestone for zero emission technology with unrivalled efficiency that gives a class-leading range, perfect for high-mileage routes that battery technology doesn’t cover.

“Designed and built in Britain, our next generation hydrogen bus will retain investment in our economy and boost skills in clean vehicle technology, a crucial sector for future development as the United Kingdom targets net zero by 2050.”

ADL secured an order last week to supply 12 double-deck electric buses to McGill’s.
