Ashton On Mersey 18 Ruskin Park 26

RUSKIN battled back from an early 12-point deficit as mistakes gifted the home side two tries, to maintain their unbeaten league record.

After those early setbacks the visitors gradually took control - thanks to a great platform from the forwards with the front-row of Cartledge, Evans and Gibbons awesome in the set scrum.

Howden, as ever, galvanised the team, while Fisher, although less effective than normal in the line-out, did sterling work in support play.

Ruskin's first try was scored by Greg Smith, after excellent handling from the backs. Fisher scored the second, and with Harry Potter and Dave Jones dominating the loose, the visitors only trailed 15-12 at half-time.

An early second-half penalty edged Ashton six points ahead. But Ruskin, with Foster organising and orchestrating at stand-off and Mousley making break after break, finished the stronger to take the spoils.

Potter scored a converted try to nudge the visitors ahead and they wrapped up victory with the try of the game when Foggarty, switched to the wing for the last half-hour, raced 80 metres to touch down.
