A SCOTTISH technology firm that provides software solutions for travel agents has unveiled expansion plans as the sector remains mired in coronavirus restrictions.

Traveltek has declared its intention to more than double its development and software team at its Glasgow headquarters by recruiting for 15 roles.

The expansion comes after the company, which provides agents with the capability to book, search and package holidays on one platform, won contracts with US-based JetBlue Vacations and HotelBeds. It is looking to build its presence in North America this year.

Chief executive Mal Barritt said: “The pandemic has caused seismic shifts in the worldwide travel sector, and we believe that data and technology provides a route to recovery for our clients. As we look to the future post-Covid, our ambition is for Traveltek to be a fundamental partner and facilitator on the travel industry’s recovery roadmap.”

Traveltek’s client list includes Scottish-based Barrhead Travel and Stewart Travel, as well as Hays Travel, Sandals and Flight Centre.

The company said yesterday that it is on track to announce it next external investment round by the end of the second quarter. It is backed by YFM Equity Partners and Fullbrook Thorpe Investments.

Mr Barritt added: “Scotland has a great tradition in travel technology, with companies that have gone on to worldwide success. We have amazing tech talent in Glasgow and across the country, and we’re excited to welcome more people into the business as we plot our next phase of growth.”
