DAVID Miliband, the Labour big-hitter turned president and chief executive of the International Rescue Committee, will deliver the keynote address when the Scottish arm of the Institute of Directors hosts its first annual conference online.

The former Foreign Secretary will appear by live stream at the event on September 2 and 3. Speakers will also include Douglas Lamont, chief executive of Innocent Drinks, and Ifeyinwa Kanue, the founder and chief executive of IntelliDigest, which addresses the sustainability challenges posed by food waste.

Climate change will be a key topic on the agenda. The International Rescue Committee is dedicated to responding to humanitarian crises, helping people whose lives have been shattered by conflict and disaster to recover.

Aidan O’Carroll, chairman of IoD Scotland, said: “Our annual conference is a key event in the business calendar, and we are pleased to be extending our reach beyond Scotland with our first global conference.

“Our first three confirmed speakers will bring unique and varied perspectives.”

Jonathan Geldart, director general of the IoD, said: “Business leaders have always shown courage in embracing change and finding solutions, and what better time to discuss the issues than ahead of November’s COP26 summit in Glasgow.”
