Harrison & Hetherington sold 51 clean cattle, 39 cast cows, 849 prime lambs, 70 prime hoggets and 410 cast sheep at St Boswells yesterday.

Thirteen prime bullocks sold to 266p/kg and averaged 242p (+5p), while 37 prime heifers peaked at 269p to average 245p (n/c).

In the cast ring cows peaked at £1,543 and 233p to average 152p (-2p).

New season prime lambs sold to £169 and 343p/kg for Beltex to average £127 or 304p (-38p), while prime hoggets peaked at £150 for Texels and 215p for Cheviots to average 194p (-39p).

Heavy cast sheep sold to a top of £145 for a Texel to average £114 (+£2), while light ewes peaked at £99 for North Country Cheviots to average £72 (-£12).

The firm also sold 30 prime heifers at Carlisle yesterday which peaked at 250p/kg and averaged 223p (-23p), while 25 beef-bred bullocks sold to 245p and levelled at 220p (-13p).

Thirty-six, beef-bred young bulls peaked at 237p and averaged 211p (-2p), while 17 dairy-bred, young bulls sold to 199p and levelled at 172p (-5p).

In the rough ring 83 cast beef cows peaked at 232p to average 168p (+11p), while 160 cast dairy cows sold to 178p to average 125p (-5p). Eight cast bulls peaked at 176p to average 142p (+3p).

There were also 1336 prime lambs that peaked at £200 and 448p/kg to average 312p (-24p), while 36 prime hoggs sold to £140 and 277p to average 211p (-1p).

Lowland cast ewes peaked at £152 for a Texel to average £109 (-£4).

Lawrie and Symington Ltd sold 40 prime cattle and 57 cast cattle at Lanark yesterday.

Prime heifers sold to 266p (twice) or to £1640, while prime bullocks peaked at 266p or £1641. Young bulls made up to 212p/kg, while prime dairy-bred cattle sold to £1,392 and 220p.

In the rough ring beef cows sold to £1,295 and 208p, while dairy cows peaked at £1,115 and 155p. Cast bulls sold to £1,370.

There were also 668 prime lambs, 395 prime hoggs and 1,573 cast sheep through Lanark yesterday.

Prime lamb numbers were up but the trade was easier on the week, in line with other centres.

The sale was topped at £168 per head for Beltex and at 374p for Texels. The overall average was 311p (-25p).

The 395 prime hoggs were a mixed show for quality with the best fleshed and heavier types still realising a good trade.

The sale was topped at £146 for Texels and to 279p/kg for Beltex. The overall average was 217p.

A larger show of 1,573 cast ewes and rams upheld recent rates. The sale was topped at £204 for a Texel with Blackfaces to £103.
