Octopus Energy will take on supplying Avro Energy’s approximately 580,000 domestic customers after its collapse this week.

Energy regulator Ofgem appointed the new provider and Avro households will switch to their new provider today (September 26).

Ofgem said the appointment follows a competitive process to get the best deal possible for customers.

Outstanding credit balances, including money owed to both existing and former domestic customers of Avro Energy will also be honoured. Domestic customers will also be protected by the energy price cap with their new supplier.

Avro Energy ceased trading on September 22 and were among other energy suppliers that have collapsed as rocketing gas prices continue to pile pressure on the struggling sector.

Customer of Avro Engergy who wish to switch supplier can shop around but are advised to wait until the transfer has been completed. They won't be charged an exit fee if they decide to switch to another provider.

Neil Lawrence, Ofgem’s director of retail, said: “I am pleased to announce we have appointed Octopus Energy for the customers of Avro Energy.

"We understand that this news may be unsettling for customers, however they do not need to worry. Their energy supply will continue as normal, and customer credit balances will be honoured.

“Your energy supply will not be interrupted. Octopus Energy will be in contact with customers over the coming days with further information. Once the transfer has been completed, customers can shop around for a better deal if they wish to.”
