SCOTLAND has missed out in the race to be chosen to become one of the first Government-supported carbon capture and storage clusters in the UK.

Supporters hoped a scheme that would involve shipping carbon dioxide emissions from the St Fergus gas terminal in Aberdeenshire for storage in depleted North Sea reservoirs off Scotland would be chosen for fast track status.

However, the Government has chosen two hubs covering Northern England and North Wales for inclusion on the Track -1 programme for schemes that it hopes will be operational by the mid 2020s.
