Donald Trump is launching a new media company with its own social media platform to rivial big tech companies

The former US president has spoken about launching his own social media site ever since he was banned from Twitter and Facebook.

TRUTH Social app, a venture of Trump Media & Technology Group, will be rolled out next year to the wider public.

In a statement, he said: "We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favourite American President has been silenced.
"This is unacceptable.

“I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on Truth Social and to fight back against big tech."

A website for the app says: "TRUTH Social is America’s “Big Tent” social media platform that encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology."

A waiting list for users to sign up for the network is running.

Trump was expelled from major social media platforms nine months ago for his role in inciting a deadly insurrection at the US Capitol.

An earlier effort to launch a blog on his existing website was abandoned after the page drew a dismal number of views.

In addition to the app, the company says it is planning a video-on-demand service dubbed TMTG+ that will feature entertainment programming, news and podcasts.

The new venture has been created through a merger with Digital World Acquisition which said it has raised roughly 293 million US dollars (£212 million) in cash, which it will use to grow TMTG's ventures.
