THE first night of GlasGLOW, one of the city's biggest Halloween events, has been cancelled just hours before doors were set to open.

Organisers have confirmed the popular show will not take place today after heavy flooding blocked the entrance to the Botanic Gardens.

Itison chiefs, who organise the event, say the decision is "outwith their control" and all ticket holders will be offered a full refund.

A spokesperson said: “Unfortunately we’ve had to take the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s first show of GlasGLOW due to overwhelming flooding blocking the road and entrance to the Botanic Gardens.

“We’re so sorry for the short notice, if you’re a ticket holder for this evening a full refund will be processed and an email on it’s way.

“Glasgow City Council have been alerted to the issue, the show was fine and ready to go, unfortunately the problem is on the roads and completely outwith our control."

As we have told previously, this year's show has been designed with the COP26 climate summit in mind. GlasGlow will see the city transformed into a town under-siege with a terrifying toxic gloop.

The spokesperson added: “The irony of planning a show all about climate change while we face intense local flooding is not lost on us and we are so gutted and apologise for the short notice.”

Such is the popularity of the show, extra dates had to be added by organisers after 30,000 tickets sold out in just three hours.

Originally due to begin today, it will run until November 14.
