Lawrie & Symington Ltd had 85 pens of three prime lambs presented for judging at their Christmas show and sale in Lanark on Monday when the championship was awarded to Robert Struthers, Collielaw, Carluke for Texels that weighed 44kg each and sold for £155 apiece. The reserve ticket went to Jim Padkin, Muirhouse for Beltex cross lambs that also scaled 44kg and fetched £150. Overall the 2059 prime lambs forward averaged 180.4p per kg (+1p on the week).
There were also 641 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes averaged £83.08 and light/export-type ewes levelled at £44.42.
Wallets Marts had 17 pens of prime lambs presented for judging at their Christmas show and sale in Castle Douglas yesterday when the championship was awarded to James Dean of Gelston Castle Farms, Castle Douglas for his pen of three Beltex that weighed 43.7kg and sold for £130. The reserve ticket went Messrs Lockhart, Culdoach for three Blackfaces that weighed 44.6kg and fetched £116. Out with the show 1718 prime lambs averaged £74.95 per head and 179.8p per kg (+6p).
Forty heavy cast ewes averaged £63.16 and 173 light ewes levelled at £34.58.
