WALLETS Marts sold 169 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1,125 per head and 255.5p per kg to average £880.03 and 219.2p (-6.9p on the fortnight), while 268 store bullocks peaked at £1,280 and 294p to level at £968.51 and 232p (-8.5p).
The firm also auctioned 570 acres of grass parks that were 26.7 per cent dearer on the year.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2,297 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £135 per head and 288.6p per kg to average 227.9p (-4.8p on the week but +47.1p on the corresponding sale last year).
There were also 553 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £158 for Texels and averaged £89.94, while light/export-type ewes peaked at £86.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £60.84.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 53 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 251p and an average of 228p (+2p on the week), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 216p (-7p).
In the rough ring 53 beef cows averaged 150p (+4p) and 18 dairy cows levelled at 108.5p (no comparison).
There were also 1,255 prime hoggs that sold to £152 and 291.9p to average £105 and 233p (-4p).
The 273 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £143 for Suffolks and average £99, while light ewes peaked at £125 for Cheviots and levelled at £71.
The firm also sold 26 prime heifers in Carlisle to a top of 246.5p and an average of 195.5p (-14.5p), while 28 prime bullocks peaked at 231.5p and levelled at 208.2p (-4.7p). Forty-two prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 297.5p and averaged 200.2p (-6.4p), while 64 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 195.5p and levelled at 160.6p (-2.6p).
In the rough ring 113 dairy cows sold to 236.5p and averaged 152.2p (-2.3p), while 230 dairy cows peaked at 150.5p and levelled at 114.8p (+0.3p).
There were also 3055 prime hoggs that sold to £140.80 and 325.1p to average 247.1p (-9p), while nine prime lambs peaked at £130 and 325p to level at 243.6p (no comparison).
The 112 heavy ewes forward averaged £102.60, while 52 light ewes levelled at £59.78.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 20 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 257p and an average of 238.4p (+10.6p), while seven prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 244p and levelled at 218.1p (no comparison). Three prime, B&W bullocks sold to 153.5p and averaged 142.1p (-4.5p).
In the rough ring 12 beef cows averaged 135p (+2p) and 60 dairy cows levelled at 114p (+1p).
There were also 3215 prime hoggs that sold to £131.50 and 312p to average 220p (+2.4p).
Heavy cast ewes averaged £105.50 and light ewes levelled at £59.06.
