Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 14 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1440 per head and 243p per kg to average £1299.70 and 234.5p.

In the rough ring 20 beef cows sold to £1200 and 166.1p to average 138.1p, while 90 dairy cows peaked at £1120 and 141.8p for the same animal to level at 120.7p. A couple of bulls sold to £1030 and 220p for the same to average 147.1p, while 30 clean OTM cattle peaked at £1270 and 198.4p to level at 156.8p.

A smaller show of 9 dairy cattle sold to £1680 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1247.78.

Wallets Marts sold 1143 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £135 per head and 314p per kg for the same sheep to average £91.26 and 229.2p (-16.2p on the week).

Cast sheep were again a flying trade with 132 heavy ewes selling to £129 for Suffolks and averaging £86.70, while 125 light/export-type ewes peaked at £80 for Blackfaces and levelled at £62.16.
