WALLETS Marts sold 289 store heifers in Castle Douglas on Monday to a top of £1,230 per head and 291.3p per kg to average £865.02 and 223.7p (+4.5p on the fortnight), while 445 store bullocks peaked at £1,290 and 309p to level at £937.58 and 229.8p (-12.2p).

The firm went on to sell 288 prime hoggs in the same venue yesterday to a top of £150 per head and 304.8p per kg to average 246.1p (+13.2p on the week).

There were also 96 heavy cast ewes forward that sold to £143 for a pair of Texels and averaged £91.14, while 17 light/export-type ewes peaked at £80 for Blackfaces and levelled at £55.94.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 12 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 250p and an average of 231.3p.

In the rough ring 47 beef cows sold to 186.8p and averaged 139.7p, while 134 dairy cows peaked at 150.9p and levelled at 112.2p. Five bulls averaged 125.1p and 6 clean OTM cattle levelled at 143.6p.

A small offering of 5 dairy cattle sold to £1850 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1576.
