Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of £1470 and 238p/kg, while prime bullocks peaked at £1480 and 214p. Prime bulls sold up to £1232 and 202p.
In the rough ring cast beef cows topped out at £1285 and 163p, while cast dairy cows peaked at £915 and 124p.
A large show of 2169 prime lambs sold to £98 for Texels and 228p/kg for Blue Texels. Overall average was 180p. There was also a show and sale of Suffolk prime lambs for the West and Central Scotland Suffolk breeders. The show was judged by W Shearer, Burnbrae, who awarded the championship to a pen of 3 lambs from R Orr, Lawhead, Tarbrax, which scaled 49kg and realised £95 to Hugh Black & son butchers, Lanark. The reserve went to J Wight & sons, Carwood, scaling at 44kg and realising £91 also to Hugh Black.
A record show of 4222 cast ewes and rams forward at the sale on Monday saw heavy ewes being topped at £152 for Texels, while lighter ewes peaked at £65 for Blackface.
The firm also held their fortnightly sale of store cattle on Tuesday. Bullocks topped at £1140 and 228p/kg to average 206p, while heifers peaked at £1090 and 226p to average 205p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 11 prime heifers at Ayr on Tuesday to a top of £1322 per head and 229p/kg to average £1191 or 220p, while 2 prime bullocks peaked at 192p to level at £952 and 182p.
In the rough ring 29 cast beef cows sold to a top of £1150 and 141p to average 120p, while 85 cast dairy cows peaked at £870 and 132p to level at 96p. Nine cast bulls sold to £1300 and 155p to average 114p. Five dairy cattle sold to £1900 for a Holstein Friesian heifer. The firm also sold straw in the swath on Tuesday. 50 acres of Winter Barley sold to £86 - £85.56 average. 344 acres of Winter Wheat peaked at £99 - £74.57 average. 104 acres Spring Barley sold to £94 - £85.84 average.
C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their weekly sale of 1,597 store lambs at Longtown on Tuesday. Topping the sale was a pen of Texel cross lambs realising £76 with several other pens breaching the £70 barrier.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 892 prime lambs forward at their weekly sale in Newton Stewart yesterday. Top prices on the day were £90 per head and 205p/kg with the overall average levelling at £74.13 or 168p.
In the cast sheep ring heavy ewes sold to £105 for a trio of Texels, while light/export-type ewes peaked at £48.50 for a pen of 22 Blackfaces.
