What is it?

A rugged, portable Bluetooth speaker perfect for the great outdoors.

Good points?

Looking like a bulletproof water canister, construction of the Braven BRV-X is based on robust materials such as thermoplastic housing and reinforced aircraft grade aluminium to cope with any terrain or conditions you may encounter.

The IPX7 waterproof rating means it is protected against heavy splashing and rain which has practical application in usage around pools or soggy campsites.

As is customary with high-end portable speakers, the BRV-X also acts as a power bank allowing you to charge a plethora of other devices.

But what differentiates this unit is its 5200mAh output which can easily give enough juice to run a dying laptop or allow for 12 hours of continuous audio playback.

Sound is provided by twin, full-range drivers with a passive radiator to give rich sounding bass while maintaining a crisp flow.

Dual sound modes offer an environment-based listening experience meaning you can enjoy music whether you are indoors or huddled around a windy campfire.

Bad points?

The speakerphone can get a bit muffled at times depending on your orientation to the device and the screw cap protecting the connection ports is not attached and could easily be misplaced.

Best for ...

Those with a passion for la fresco music and who want to do so without fretting that their speaker could get broken.

Avoid if ...

You care little about robust practicality and instead prefer elegant design that will grace an upmarket living space.

Score: 9/10.
