An adventurous ride awaits in wild and invigorating Glen Feshie. The route starts with a considerable challenge – avoiding the midges at Tolvah (NN 841996), where you can park.

Tarmac leads easily down to Glenfeshie Lodge, passing a well-signed bridge which is used on the return. An ATV track continues as the Scots pine-studded landscape unfolds, passing a ruin and crossing a burn in a taste of things to come. Below Creag na Caillich the track fords the Feshie. Only cross when the river is low.

On the far side bounce, right, along the track and further on, after a wee downhill, branch left up an old twin track, avoiding a deep ford. This becomes singletrack and crosses a landslide where you will have to manhandle your bike.

Where you rejoin the main glen track look left for a five-tiered waterfall that pours off the high Cairngorm plateau. The rocky track leads on and up to a rapids-filled gorge at Ruighe nan Leum.

Return from this fine setting – the onward boggy path leading to Glen Geldie would be destroyed by tyres.

Keep east of the Feshie for slow singletrack to bothy Ruigh Aiteachain. Continue, ford a burn, and at a T-junction in trees go right then left at the small triangular junction, in 30 metres.

Walk any boggy sections to preserve the track and cross the bridge for Tolvah.
