Street style blogger Nick Patrick heads to the high streets of Glasgow and Edinburgh to find out how the locals are donning their fur.

With winter markets popping up on our high streets, decorations in every shop window and the famous George Square ice rink being assembled in Glasgow,  it is safe to say that Christmas is fast approaching - and if there's one way to be festively fabulous this season it's in faux fur.

Following on from the autumn/winter shows, the faux fur trend has finally hit the high street. Many of the outfits that can be seen on the streets have taken obvious influence from top designers such as Prada, Céline, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci and Scotland's very own Obscure Couture.  And, with the fashion world's move towards a more ethical stance against the fur trade, you can now wear that fluffy wrap with a clear conscience. In the words of Karl Lagerfeld, "You cannot fake chic, but you can be chic in fake fur."

There are a number of ways that the fashion savvy people of Scotland are wearing fur; however, the most prominent way seems to be pairing faux fur with leather accessories, such as hand bags, gloves and boots. This combination of these contrasting textures works extremely well together, and screams Christmas chic. Move over old Hollywood, Scotland is coming.

Another, more casual look that's sweeping the streets is combining a fur lapelled pea coat with your winter knits and a pair of dark denims. The more fashion forward amongst the crowd ventured out sporting ripped jeans (an up and coming trend in its own right) along with their furs, adding a grungy edge to the look.  And with stores like Topshop and River Island offering an array of traditional furs as well as some fantastically fierce coloured furs, it's not going to be hard to stand out from the crowd this winter.
