Following an awards season in which actresses wore black to The Golden Globes and Baftas in support of the Time's Up movement all eyes were on Hollywood's A-List to see if political statements would again dominate the red carpet ensembles or if they would ring loud and clear in the ceremony and speeches.

In the end it was more business as usual on the long walk into the Dolby Theatre, though the dress code for the 90th Academy Awards turned out to be more diverse than we've seen in years.

White was a major trend as were bright colours, with a rainbow of vibrant jewel shades to choose from, not to mention a smattering of bold florals.

Darker tones mingled with the always to be relied upon sparkle of molten metallics and it wouldn't be the Oscars without a dusting of sugar almond tones and sequins but there were far less of those than we've seen previously.
