What is it?

A smart bicycle helmet that can light the path ahead as you pedal, while also alerting those behind to your presence.

Good Points?

Design and build quality is impressive with a comfortable fit and surprisingly light weight given it packs 48 individual LED lights.

The adage of be seen, be safe rings true here due to the spread of lights across the device.

Left and right indicators are nothing new in recent helmets, but Lumos has perfected the position and operation of both LED output and the handlebar mounted Bluetooth remote control.

The most impressive feature is the brake light at the back of the helmet which senses deceleration and turns on in a bright solid red, alerting vehicles behind you.

A lithium-polymer rechargeable battery provides up to six hours of usage in flashing mode and three hours in solid illumination mode with a charging time of two hours.

There is a smartphone app that allows you to check your battery level and change helmet settings.

It is billed as weatherproof (ideal for rain-battered Scottish climes) and comes in four colour options: white, black, yellow and blue.

Bad points?

Getting the right sensitivity to the sensor light can be tricky if you switch between solo commuting and group club rides. The brightness could be distracting to cyclists immediately behind you as it is at head-height rather than the normal seat post level.

Best for ...

Those wanting maximum visibility on their journey, especially during the dark winter months.

Avoid if ...

You don't wear a cycling helmet. That's a personal choice.
