Style and substance

Farlam Hall is a charming country manor set in twelve acres of estate land in Cumbria, near Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site. Beautifully manicured gardens and a babbling brook provide serene surroundings for the immaculately presented family-run hotel, which is one of ten selected from a field of 860 to be listed in The Good Hotel Guide’s Best Walking Hotels for 2019.

Sleeping matters

There are twelve spacious bedrooms and a two-bedroom cottage on the grounds. Comfort is the order of the day, with huge king size beds, plush suites by the sash windows and a jacuzzi bath, two sinks and a walk-in shower. Tea and coffee making facilities are not required in the rooms as staff bring a tray of freshly brewed hot drinks (and home baking) on request.

Food for thought

Traditional English dishes with creativity and flair are endorsed by the Good Food Guide and ViaMichelin.co.uk. Twice baked cheddar cheese and herb souffle, Solway sea trout fillet and medallion of Cumbrian beef fillet are just some of the sublime menu options.

Drink in the Sights

The hotel boasts an extensive wine list, a range of gins, and some sumptuous desert drinks, as well as excellent champagne and port.

Nice Touch

The Quinion family and their staff provide an exemplary level of service. On arrival, there is the option to take tea on the terrace with that day’s home baking. The family also boast a wealth of local knowledge, having run Farlam Hall for four decades.

About the Area

The location is an ideal base to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hadrian’s Wall and the beautiful north of England countryside, which includes Northumberland National Park. The hotel is currently offering a three-night walking holiday break for £600 per couple.
