What is it?

A Windows tablet computer from Microsoft's Surface series.

The tablet market isn't currently blessed with a plethora of options for Windows users but the devices that are available all bring stylish and innovative designs.

Microsoft's latest Surface Pro is no exception as it pushes the boundaries of how slim these machines can get while staying functional.

Good Points?

At 7.3mm (0.29in) the Surface Pro X has been specifically designed to be as thin and portable as possible.

The whole unit weighs comfortably less than a kilogram but still sports a 13-inch PixelSense touchscreen display that automatically adjusts to lighting conditions.

Windows 10 Home runs smoothly on either the 8GB or 16GB RAM variants and provides a wealth of security settings without harming the user experience.

Bad points?

Cost per component is high in this device as you are paying for the small form factor. A lack of 3.5mm headphone jack is disappointing.

Software compatibility could be an issue with older applications as Microsoft has moved to a custom processor. This requires most programs to be converted to work with their hardware.

Battery life is fair but down on previous Surface models which is another sacrifice for the thinner chassis.

Best for ...

Those always on the move and who require the lightest, thinnest Windows computer available. An optional SIM card slot aids portability negating reliance on additional devices to tether to when off WiFi.

Avoid if ...

You are looking for an all-round experience and priority on value for money. Older Surface models, although bulkier, provide the same functionality at a lower price.

Score: 7/10.
