It is accepted that a certain amount of discomfort comes with the menstrual cycle, but how much is too much? Very painful periods, excessive bleeding or pain during sex can be an indication that you have endometriosis.

This painful disorder is caused by tissue that normally lines the uterus, growing in areas on the outside of the uterus.

If you are concerned that endometriosis is the cause of your symptoms, make an appointment at BMI Ross Hall Hospital’s Endometriosis Centre for a diagnosis.

BMI Ross Hall Hospital, a recognised British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) Provisional Endometriosis Centre in Glasgow, can tailor a treatment plan to help.

Endometriosis Centres were established to ensure patients were treated by gynaecologists with appropriate laparoscopic surgical expertise, and with staff trained to manage and monitor the condition.

At BMI Ross Hall Hospital, you can expect dedicated care from initial enquiry through to the completion of your treatment.

Diagnosis, treatment and care

At your initial consultation you will be seen by a lead gynaecologist who reviews your symptoms, any previous investigations and treatments, and discusses the impact endometriosis is having on your day-to-day life.

As the effects of endometriosis can vary hugely between women, you will be provided with a personalised recommended treatment plan.

There may be medical treatments offered, such as adjusting hormone levels, or a surgical procedure such as a laparoscopy … which can usually be carried out in a day without the need to stay overnight.
